Quetta, 3 September 2025

The International Mediation & Arbitration Centre (IMAC), under the Ministry of Law and Justice, successfully concluded a One-Day Training on Arbitration at University Law College, Quetta. The program was held in collaboration with the High Court of Balochistan, Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Balochistan Bar Council, University Law College, and CIArb Pakistan Branch.

Hon’ble Justice Iqbal Ahmed Kasi of the High Court of Balochistan graced the concluding ceremony as Chief Guest. In his address, Justice Kasi emphasized that mediation and arbitration are not foreign imports but are deeply rooted in Pakistan’s traditions. He highlighted that Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) offers a credible, cost-effective, and expeditious pathway to reduce the backlog of cases. He further encouraged young lawyers to guide their clients towards ADR, stressing its promising future in Pakistan’s legal system.

Other distinguished speakers, including Meer Atta Ullah Langove (President, BHCBA), Rehmat Ullah Barech (Vice Chairman, Balochistan Bar Council), and Prof. Asmatullah Kakar, underscored the importance of ADR training for both lawyers and students. They echoed the vision of Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Law & Justice, to strengthen ADR capacity nationwide.

The technical sessions were conducted by internationally recognized arbitrators Mian Sheraz Javaid (MSJ) FCIArb and Syed Hammad Yousaf Gillani. They shared global best practices and practical insights into arbitration. Participants expressed appreciation for the program, noting that it provided valuable knowledge and exposure to international standards.

This initiative forms part of IMAC’s broader mission to institutionalize ADR across Pakistan, enabling lawyers, judges, officials, and business leaders to adopt more timely, affordable, and effective mechanisms for dispute resolution.
