About this Training

The International Mediation and Arbitration Centre (IMAC), a project of the Ministry of Law & Justice, successfully organized a One-Day Executive Training on Tax Dispute Resolution Through ADR today at COMSTECH in Islamabad. The training aimed to equip FBR officials and ADR Committee members with the necessary skills to effectively handle tax disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). It sought to strengthen the institutional frameworks supporting ADR within the context of Pakistani tax laws, ensuring a more robust and reliable system. Additionally, the training focused on enhancing stakeholder engagement by building trust among taxpayers, legal professionals, and businesses in the ADR mechanisms. To further improve the system’s efficiency and accessibility, the integration of digital technologies into the ADR process was also encouraged.

The training brought together retired Justices of the High Courts, government officers, legal experts, business leaders, and tax professionals, creating a platform for constructive dialogue about ADR's role in efficient tax dispute resolution.

The Federal Minister for Law & Justice, graced the closing ceremony of the training as the Chief Guest, He emphasized ADR's crucial role in ensuring swift tax dispute resolution and reducing litigation burdens. He stated, "A well-structured ADR framework in tax administration proves essential for fostering a business-friendly environment and improving investor confidence. The government remains committed to promoting ADR mechanisms for efficient tax governance and dispute resolution."

The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) acknowledged the necessity for alternative mechanisms in tax dispute resolution. He remarked, "ADR provides taxpayers and tax authorities with opportunities to resolve disputes amicably without prolonged litigation. FBR remains committed to integrating ADR within its processes to ensure fair and transparent tax administration."

Dr. Umar A. Oseni, in his address, highlighted international best practices in tax dispute resolution and ADR's benefits in reducing tax litigation. He noted, "The adoption of ADR in tax governance aligns Pakistan with global trends, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and economic growth."

This executive training represented a significant milestone in institutionalizing ADR within tax governance, promoting legal certainty, and strengthening Pakistan's tax administration system.
